Kool & The Gang은 미국의 흑인Funk 밴드이다. 제일 큰 히트곡으로 Celebration 이 있으며,

이 곡은 1981년 연말 차트 5위와 빌보드핫 100에서 4주 연속 1위를 차지하였다

1974년부터 1975년 중반까지는 쿨 앤 더 갱의 첫번째 전성기로 이들의 대표곡이라고 할 수 있는

Jungle Booge, Hollywood Swinging, Higher Plane, Spirit of the Boogie 등을 기록하며

승승장구했으나 1975년 말부터 디스코 음악의 인기가 치솟으면서 정통 흑인 Funk  Disco 

음악을 하던 이들은 침체기에 빠졌었다. 그러나 1979년 Ladies' Night, Too Hot, Celebration

발표하여 모두 빌보드 핫 100 탑 10에 들어갔으며 "Celebration"은 위에서 서술한 바와 같이

1981년에 어마어마한 히트를 거두었고 동시에 마성의 BGM으로 여러 CF에서 활발히 사용되어

현대인들에게도 인지도가 상당히 높았다. 메인 보컬의 제이티 테일러(James "J.T." Taylor)는

뛰어난 가창력과 호감형 외모로 팀의 인기에 크게 일조했지만 1987년 리드보컬 제이티 테일러가

솔로 전향을 위해 탈퇴를 선언하면서 이들의 전성기도 끝나게 되었다.
