노와르(Manowar)는 뉴욕주 오번 출신의 미국 헤비메탈밴드.

1980년  베이시스트 Joey DeMaio(조이 데마이어)가 기타리스트 Ross The Boss(로스 보스)와

의기투합한 후 역량 있는 보컬리스트 Eric Adams(에릭아담스)와 드러머 Donnie Hamzik를

영입함으로써 구체적인 골격을 갖추었는데, Joey는 당시 The Dictators란 그룹 해체 후

프랑스의 록그룹 Shakin' Street의 일원으로 Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult등의

투어에 참여한 Ross The Boss를 Black Sabbath의 영국 공연에서 처음 만나게 되었으며,

서로의 연주 실력을 확인하면서 자연스레 그룹이 결성되었다.

이후 데뷔 앨범 [Battle Hymns]의 완성을 눈앞에 둔 82년, 드러머 Donnie Hamzik의 자리는

전직 철강 주물공으로 넘치는 정력의 파워 드러머 Scott Columbus로 대치되었다.

Manowar는 판타지 (특히검과마법)와 신화 (특히 북유럽 신화와 그리스와 로마신화)를

기반으로 한 가사뿐만 아니라 장르와 핵심청중을 축하하는 수많은 노래와

크고 강렬한 사운드의 밴드로 유명합니다.

밴드는 84년 2월 3집 [Hail To England]를 발표하면서 처음으로 영국 순회 공연을 하게 되고,

가장 큰 퍼포먼스를 선보인 공로로 기네스 북에 등재되었으며, 

그들은 또한 2008 년 불가리아 (Kavarna Rock Fest)에서 5 시간 1 분 동안 연주 한 후

가장 긴 헤비메탈 콘서트에 대한 세계 기록을 보유하고 있습니다.
