텍사스 주 샌안토니오(San Antonio)에서 태어난 (1951년 5월 3일 출생) 크리스토퍼 크로스는

<예스(Yes)> 출신의 <피터 뱅크스(Peter Banks)>가

1971년에 결성했었던 영국의 프로그레시브 록 밴드인 <플래시 (Flash)>와 같은 이름을 가진

 커버 밴드(Cover Band: 유명 가수들의 노래를 연주하는 밴드)에서 음악 활동을 시작했었다.

하지만 샌안토니오 지역을 활동 기반으로 삼았던 플래시는

뚜렷한 성과없이 작은 클럽들을 전전하는 활동을 펼치다가 결국 해산을 하고 말았다.

밴드 해산 후 크리스토퍼 크로스는 워너 브라더스 음반사로 부터 가능성을 인정 받고

 솔로 음반 계약을 하게 되는데 이때가 1979년이었다. 캐나다의 싱글 차트에서도 1위에 올랐으며

 영국의 싱글 차트에서는 48위 까지 진출하는 성공을 거두어 데뷔 싱글이 거둔 성공을 뛰어넘는 성과를 거두었다.  

한편 <Sailing>은 우리나라에서도 라디오 등의 방송을 통해서 자주 접할 수 있었던 곡으로 크리스토퍼 크로스가 발표한 노래들 중에서는

 <Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)>와 함께 팝 음악 애호가들의 애청곡 1순위를 다투고 있는 곡이기도 하다.
