6인조 그룹 J. Geils Band는 1967년 J. Geils Blues Band란 이름으로 시작된다. 당시 이들은 5인조 그룹이었는데

현재의 로큰롤이 아닌 블루스와 록의 혼합한 음악을 연주하였다.

이들이 본격적으로 음악활동을 시작한 것은 1971년, 첫 앨범 「J. Geils Band」를 발표해 인기를 얻는데

이 첫 앨범을 이들은 음악잡지 Rolling Stone지가 뽑은 가장 유망한 신인그룹상을 받았다.

1972년으로 들어와 두 번째 앨범 「The Morning After」가 발표되고 싱글 ＜Whammer Jammer＞ ＜Feel I Look At The Purse＞ ＜Looking For A Love＞ 등이 좋은 반응을 얻었다.

또한 그해 말 이들의 실황공연을 담은 앨범 「Full House」를 세 번째로 발표하였다.

영원한 빅 밴드임과 동시에 백인 블루스•밴드의 최고봉인 "J Geils Band"의 국내 대 히트곡.

1979년 말, 앨범 「Love Stinks」를 발표, 이 앨범에서 커트한 ＜Come Back＞은 동서양의 모든 록 팬들을 가장 가깝게 느끼게 해주었는데 다소 감각적이며 경이적인 사운드가 많은 인기를 얻게 해주었다.

1981년 앨범 「Freeze-Frame」은 The J. Geils Band의 최고 영광을 안겨주었는데, 이들 노래 중

＜Centerfold＞가 Best No.1에 오른 최초의 곡이 되었다

우리나라를 비롯한 동양의 모든 록 팬들로부터 대단한 사랑을 받았다.

기타를 중심으로 하는 스트레이트한 록큰 롤 밴드 "J Geils Band"는 보컬 "피터 울프"를 중심으로 블루스 필이

스피커를 찢는 것 같은 매직 딕의 하프, 그것들 모두가 일환이 되어 힘차게 달리는 검은 로켓트 같은 이들의 음악은

졸도할 것 같을 만큼 당시 젊은이들에게 크게 어필을 하였다.
