1945년 영국 런던에서 태어났다. 1961년 포크 가수 위즈 존스(Wizz Jones)의 투어에 참여하면서 본격적인 음악 경력을 쌓기 시작했고 1963년 리듬엔 블루스 그룹 파이브 디멘션(Five Dimension) 등을 거쳐

1966년 제프 벡 그룹(Jeff Beck Group)과 1969년 페이시스(Faces)의 멤버로 활동하며 명성을 얻었다

1975년<어틀랜틱 크로싱1975년 미국 빌보드 앨범차트 1위> 세일링Sailing  (1975년 영국 싱글차트 1위)을 히트시켰다. 이어 Tonight's The Night, Gonna Be Alright (1976), The First Cut Is The Deepest)(1977), Do Ya Think I’m Sexy

(1978) 등의 미국 빌보드 싱글차트 1위곡을 배출했다로드 스튜어트는 허스키한 음색과 열정적인 사랑노래로

1970·80년대 대중의 인기를 얻었다. 1994년 로큰롤 명예의 전당(Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame)에

솔로 아티스트로 헌액된 뒤, 2012년에는 그룹 페이시스 멤버 자격으로 다시 헌액되었다.
